Lundkvist was once one of Sweden's top offensive defencemen, winning the Salming Trophy in the SHL and leading all defencemen in power-play goals before coming to North America.

According to Reuters, GM Jim Nill praised his ability to move the puck and transition out of the zone quickly.

Nill said in that same interview.In a different piece from February's trade recap, Nill mentioned how the team needed more right-shot depth.
