As the Mavericks explore a possible move, the American Airlines Center is becoming the undisputed domain of the Dallas Stars, and a major hub for music, sports, and spectacle

The American Airlines Center has always been at the center of Dallas sports.
But now, it's becoming something even bigger.
With the Dallas Mavericks reportedly weighing their options for a future outside the AAC, the arena's long-term identity is quietly shifting - and the Dallas Stars may be the franchise that defines it
While some fans are feeling the nostalgia of Reunion Arena, the AAC has continued evolving into a truly multifunctional venue that hosts far more than just NHL and NBA games.
A recent example? The Dallas Wings vs. Indiana Fever showdown that sold out the building, sparking national conversation around the rise of women's basketball in major arenas.
The hype was so strong, the teams returned for a second round, and while some fans hoped for a Caitlin Clark vs. Paige Bueckers matchup that never materialized, the energy in the arena spoke for itself.
«This felt like a playoff game,» one Wings fan said after the matchup. «It proves the city will show up - not just for the men's teams.»

Why the American Airlines Center is becoming more than just a sports arena

The AAC's versatility is what makes it stand out.
From Trans-Siberian Orchestra's holiday pyrotechnics to Ringling Bros. circus spectacles**, the arena has embraced every type of event imaginable.
And now? Even metal is making waves on the ice.
Next month, bands like Bring Me The Horizon and Motionless in White will take the stage, or rather, the rink, as part of their USA Ascension Program+ Tour.
Earlier this year, Papa Roach and Rise Against helped spark a wave of heavy music bookings at the venue.
As noted in this FanRecap article, the Stars' growing involvement in the arena's future goes far beyond what happens during NHL season.
If the Mavericks eventually relocate - a possibility that's gaining traction - the Dallas Stars would become the primary tenants of one of Texas' premier entertainment venues.
That could mean more control, more branding, and more opportunities to build around hockey-first experiences.
And if the arena's packed calendar of concerts, basketball games, and winter magic continues, the AAC won't just be a home - it'll be a destination.
Personally, I think this shift could benefit the Stars in ways fans don't fully realize yet.
