The Detroit Red Wings have had a tumultuous season so far this year.
The club started off underperforming expectations to the point that head coach Derek Lalonde was replaced by Todd McLellan
Since then, the team's play has improved and they now hold a wildcard spot in the Eastern Conference, tied with the Columbus Blue Jackets with 59 points through 53 games.
The team is also currently tied with the Winnipeg Jets for the longest active winning streak at six games.
Unfortunately, things are not going so smoothly for Red Wings owner Chris Ilitch.
Ilitch and his wife Kelle announced today that the couple is going through a divorce after more than 20 years of marriage.
Naturally, fans have speculated what kind of impact this could have on the Red Wings, as well as the Detroit Tigers, who are also owned by Ilitch.
Detroit Free Press reporter Violet Ikonomova writes that Lowell Friedman, a lawyer in the Friedman Law Firm, noted that this divorce is unlikely to have an impact on the ownership and business activities of either the Red Wings or the Tigers.
With that being said, it would appear as though the Red Wings season won't be affected by their owner's personal affairs.
As such, we can expect the Red Wings to continue to operate as normal, hopefully earning a playoff spot and potentially even becoming buyers at the upcoming trade deadline.
