Patrick Kane posts on social media to say goodbye to Detroit
Veteran forward Patrick Kane had a long list of suitors vying for his signature but in the end it was the Detroit Red Wings who got Kane to sign on the dotted line. It has been another successful season for Kane on a personal note, coming off major hip surgery, he contributed 20 goals and 47 points in 50 games, showing he can still dominate at the NHL level.
Things haven't gone as well for the franchise the last stretch. A month ago the Red Wings were sitting comfortably in a Wild Card position but the team's play the stretch of the season caused them to fall out of the playoff picture and eventually miss following the results of the last game of the season.
The 35 year old, has said on multiple occasions that he has enjoyed his time in Detroit but appears non committal on any sort of extension talks despite previous reports he had a «verbal» agreement to sign a new deal with the Detroit Red Wings in the offseason.
Yesterday, Kane posted on social media expressing how thankful he was for his time in Detroit this season.
"Thank you Red Wings, my teammates, coaches and all the fans of Hockey Town for welcoming me and my family with open arms this season. This past year gave us memories we'll never forget. The work doesn't stop. #LGRW"
Kane's post sounded awfully like a goodbye to me. With the way the team faltered down the stretch when the games were at the most important, it maybe giving Kane pause on committing in the twilight of his career to an organization that isn't as close to competing for a Stanley Cup like he once thought.
