After a terrible start to the season for the goaltender, and the team, Edmonton GM Ken Holland sent Campbell to the AHL. He played there last night for the Bakersfield Condors, his first AHL games since the 2018-19 season. Campbell finally talked about his demotion, and said he felt he was playing well and his confidence was up.
What!? I get it, Edmonton needs better defense on top of goaltending. The Oilers blueline isn't exactly making life easier for anyone. That said, this statement just seems totally tone deaf. The response on social media is exactly what you'd expect it to be.
As someone in the responses mentioned, Campbell's first outing in the AHL did not go well. Four goals on 20 shots in a 4-1 loss, including this awful one below.
