Keegan Kolesar likely to face suspension after dangerous hit from behind on Mattias Ekholm
Last night, the Edmonton Oilers and the Vegas Golden Knights faced off in game 5 of their second-round series. With the series tied 2-2, and the Knights leading by 2, a Vegas forward takes a really bad penalty on a play you just can't make.
Near the end of the second period, Oilers defender Mattias Ekholm is going back to retrieve the puck in his own zone, with less than 30 seconds remaining in the period, he then gets taken out from behind by Vegas forward Keegan Kolesar, take a look:
Keegan Kolesar puts Edmonton on the power play for five minutes after boarding Mattias Ekholm
Kolesar was given a 5-minute major and a game misconduct on the play and rightfully so, that's a hit you just can't make at one of the worst times in the game.
I would hope that after being assessed a 5-minute major and game misconduct the Department of Player Safety actually looks at this play, but at this point, no hearing has been announced.
Luckily, it looks like Ekholm was okay onthis play, but it could've been a lot worse.
