Longtime NHL forward inks AHL contract for 2023-24 season
After spending a third stint with the Edmonton Oilers, albeit only on a professional tryout contract, longtime NHL forward Sam Gagner will play in the American Hockey League this season.
On Monday, it was announced that the Bakersfield Condors, American Hockey League affiliate for the Edmonton Oilers, have signed Sam Gagner to a one-year contract for the 2023-24 season.
"The Condors have signed winger Sam Gagner to an AHL deal. He will wear 89 in #Condorstown." The Condors said in a post on X.
The London, Ontario native was signed to a PTO with the Oilers this summer as the team was searching for forward depth, but didn't have much cap space to give anyone a guaranteed contract. Gagner was unable to earn a contract with the Oilers due to cap reasons, but the team never officially released him from his PTO.
Gagner, 34, spent the 2022-23 season with the Winnipeg Jets, who were the seventh team he's played with during his time in the National Hockey League. In 48 games for the Jets, Gagner had 14 points (eight goals, six assists), 13 penalty minutes and was a minus-four.
