Darnell Nurse intentionally cross checked Quinton Byfield's head into the ice on Monday night, and now, he's learned his suspension fate from the NHL's Department of Player Safety.
Monday night's clash between the Edmonton Oilers and Los Angeles Kings was a brutal one, and while the Kings dominated the matchup, it was the Oilers that were clearly out for blood in the meaningless matchup.
The moment that defined that mindset came from Darnell Nurse, who took down Kings star Quinton Byfield, and when his head was on the ice, Nurse clearly intended to injure him, cross checking him to the back of the head.
Unfortunately, this isn't the first type of incident like this we've seen from Nurse before, and unsurprisingly, on Tuesday the NHL's Department of Player Safety revealed that the Oilers blue liner will have a hearing.
After
Phillip Danault made his thoughts clear on the Oilers intentionally trying to hurt their players ahead of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, and unsurprisingly, Nurse has now learned his suspension fate.
As a result of the play, Nurse has been suspended one game for the play, and that will mean that with just one regular season game remaining, he'll miss the Oilers next clash with the Los Angeles Kings when their Stanley Cup Playoffs series begins this weekend.
Ultimately, this isn't the first time that Nurse has faced the Department of Player Safety, and that has likely played a role in their decision, and with the Oilers already short handed heading into the post-season, this has made things even worse as they come into their series with the Kings as a major underdog.
