Edmonton Oilers star forwards Leon Draisaitl and Connor McDavid are able to become unrestricted free agents in 2025 and 2026, respectively. While it would be easy for them to walk away given the lack of success in the Alberta capital, aside from this season, both have them have already expressed their desire to the management staff that they'd like to remain with the Oilers for the long-haul.
According to Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff, Draisaitl and McDavid have gone to management to say that they don't intent on testing the free agent market and want to sign long-term contracts.
Further to that, Bob Stauffer is reporting that Draisaitl and the Oilers have begun discussions on a contract extension. The German forward becomes eligible to sign a contract extension as of July 1st and wants to ink a long-term deal with the Oilers, Stauffer says.
While Edmonton's fully focused on Game 4 of the 2024 Stanley Cup Final, the future of the franchise's two stars will be a topic of discussion throughout the summer and until they're both officially locked up to long-term extensions.
