Edmonton Oilers Veteran Reveals His Thoughts On Retirement After The Stanley Cup Finals

The Stanley Cup Finals are upon us, and for Corey Perry, it's a very familiar scene, as he will be making his sixth total trip to the Finals, including his fifth over the last six years, with his only absence being his second season with the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2022/23.

Now, at 40-years of age, he'll look to lead the Oilers to their first Stanley Cup victory since 1990, but at Stanley Cup Finals media day just 24 hours before Game 1 in Edmonton, he was asked about his future.

At 40-years of age, many would have expected him to have at least considered retirement once, but according to Perry, it's never even been a thought for him, as he reveals that regardless of the result, he'll play on in 2025/26.

If that is true, it will line Perry up to play in season No. 21 of his illustrious career, one that has seen him play in Anaheim, Dallas, Montreal, Tampa Bay, Chicago and ultimately Edmonton, and in that time, he's amassed an impressive 448 goals and 935 points in 1,392 games, even being a one-time Hart Trophy winner.

While he's not the player he once was, ask any Oilers teammate and they will tell you that he's just as valuable as anyone on this roster, and he intends to continue doing that moving forward.

As for where he'll play in 2025/26, that is unclear given the fact that he's a free agent after signing a one-year deal with the Oilers, but after his production in the post-season, it's safe to say that if he intends to play on, Edmonton will happily have him.
