The Edmonton Oilers put up a disappointing performance in Game 5, and after the game, former NHLer Kevin Bieksa blasted them for it.
After an impressive comeback from 3-0 down in Game 4 to tie this series at 2-2, the Edmonton Oilers let their home fans down with a poor performance in Game 5, as they were blown out of the water to fall 5-2.
Now, they head back to Florida down 3-2, once again having to fight for their lives, and while they did it a year ago, this Panthers team is on another level, and they'll do well to survive and force a Game 7 at home.
After the game, former NHLer turned analyst Kevin Bieksa absolutely blasted the Oilers, calling them out for how timid they've been and how the Panthers have absolutely destroyed them on the boards this series.
"I just think the whole mindset of this game has been off for the Oilers, I think it's a very safe mindset, it's a very uptight mindset at times.
The evidence of that is look at all the decisions they are making with the puck. They are so hesitant, so reluctant to use the middle of the ice.
The boards in this series is death. It is death for the Edmonton Oilers. It is big Florida defensemen pinching, it is big wingers that love these little confrontations."
Given how the Oilers have had their success this season, this assessment from Bieksa is spot on, as he's called out Edmonton for their mindset and getting away from the game plan that got them this far in the first place.
If they are to extend this series on Tuesday, the Oilers need to get back to what makes them the Oilers, playing the style of hockey that saw them come back from 3-0 down in Game 4, because if they don't, they may need to watch the Panthers celebrate and lift the Cup for the second straight season.
