The Edmonton Oilers have named their new General Manager Stan Bowman and can now put all their focus into re-signing superstar forward Leon Draisaitl who is entering the final season of an eight-year contract that he signed with the Oilers in 2017.

Bowman made sure to mention during his introductory press conference that having the German native locked up long-term is top on his list of business.

«Leon is a star player and he's top priority for me,» Bowman said. «I want Leon to be an Oiler for life.»

Bowman believes Edmonton has the best duo in the league in Draisaitl and Connor McDavid.

«They're the best there is,» Bowman told media. «I think that's a priority, they clearly are a big part of what we're doing They are a huge part of this community, this team, and they are going to be going forward.»

Oilers radio personality Bob Stauffer thinks Bowman will come to an agreement with Draisaitl in the near future.

It is imperative to the Oilers Stanley Cup window that Draisaitl remains long-term. The 28 year old, has been one of the best players in the entire NHL for the better part of a decade, putting up 850 points (347 goals and 503 assists) in 719 games. He doesn't get his fair shine because he has to share the spotlight in Edmonton with the NHL's best player Connor McDavid.
