Many veteran Edmonton Oilers are gathering for team skates at the Downtown Community Arena as they are eager to get started on the new season. The franchise is looking to repeat another epic playoff run following the heartbreaking Game 7 loss to the Florida Panthers. One veteran member is missing from these skates.
Evander Kane has been dealing with a sports hernia that may require surgery which could force the veteran forward on the LTIR to begin the season. Edmonton Journal's Jim Matheson speculates that Kane won't pass the team's physical when training camp opens.
The 33-year-old, was a non-factor during most of Edmonton's playoff run due to his injury. During the playoffs, Kane was unable to sit on the Oilers bench due to the pain he was in. Kane has two years remaining on his contract, which carries a cap hit of $5.125M.
Edmonton will begin their pre-season against the Winnipeg Jets on September 22nd.
