May 14, 2025; Las Vegas, Nevada, USA; Edmonton Oilers center Connor McDavid (97) celebrates with center Leon Draisaitl (29) and goaltender Olivier Rodrigue (35) after the Oilers defeated the Vegas Golden Knights 1-0 during an overtime victory, completing a 4-1 series win during game five of the second round of the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs at T-Mobile Arena. The Edmonton Oilers are just three wins away from a Stanley Cup, and now P.K. Subban has made a big statement on the teams biggest stars.

After a dramatic Game 1 victory in overtime, the Edmonton Oilers are on the front foot in the Stanley Cup Finals, with just three victories now separating them from the Oilers first Stanley Cup victory since way back in 1990.
The city of Edmonton is behind the already popular team, and if they could hoist the Cup, it's safe to say that Leon Draisaitl and Connor McDavid would be made men, cementing themselves among the all-time greats with a victory in this one.
However, former NHLer P.K. Subban took it to another level, making this statement on the Oilers two biggest stars should they break through and land Canada's first Stanley Cup since 1993.
«If Conor McDavid wins a Stanley Cup, Leon Draisaitl wins a Stanley Cup. I don't know if this is going to happen, but I'd be an advocate for putting their jerseys up in the Rafters. Right away, these guys have been a bit good.»
On the surface, this is a ridiculous statement, and when you look further into it, it's even more ridiculous, and while this would be an iconic Stanley Cup win that breaks a 35 year drought in Edmonton, no one should have their jersey raised to the rafters while still active, let alone two players at once with neither of them nearing 30-years of age.
One day, regardless of Stanley Cup success, it's likely that both will have their jersey's retired and be honoured by Oilers fans forever more, but as of right now, there's absolutely no reason why they should have their jersey's retired before the end of their NHL careers, no matter how iconic a victory would be for the team and the city of Edmonton.
