Connor McDavid and the Oilers are down 2-1 in the Stanley Cup Finals, and now ESPN's Stephen A. Smith has called out the captain on his struggles.
After a dramatic victory in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals, the Edmonton Oilers have lost two straight games, and now, they face a pivotal Game 4 in Florida as they look to take things back to Edmonton tied at 2-2.
According to ESPN's Stephen A. Smith, it's Connor McDavid that needs to step up, as the face of the network has called out the Oilers star for his play through three games of the Finals thus far.
Thirteen shots, zero goals, nothing, in the Stanley Cup?
When do you get to hold a superstar accountable, if not under these conditions?
Smith certainly isn't someone that knows hockey, he has been a part of key coverage in recent times with P.K. Subban's consistent presence on his show during the post-season, and that clearly shows as McDavid has an impressive five assists thus far in the Stanley Cup Finals despite being a -1 in the series.
Sure, Game 3 wasn't the most impressive for McDavid, as Smith did the smallest bit of research and saw McDavid with 13 shots and no goals, and while the team would love to see him score more, he has 31 points in 19 playoff games thus far in 2025.
Ultimately, the criticism won't stop until McDavid hoists Lord Stanley high above his head, and with the team needing to win Game 4 to avoid a 3-1 deficit heading home to Edmonton, this is his chance to step up and continue silencing the critics.
