Surpising Eastern Conference team emerges as front-runner emerges in the Patrick Kane sweepstakes
Three-time Stanley Cup champion Patrick Kane is gearing up for a return to NHL action in the coming weeks.
Kane underwent hip resurfacing surgery during the off-season and has been working his way back to getting up to game speed and physically ready to play again.
He recently began meeting with teams and Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff has mentioned that teams around thr league are beginning to wonder if the Florida Panthers are the front-runner at this point.
"What I can tell you is a lot of teams are wondering if the Florida Panthers are the front runners for Kane's services. You see the start they're off to, they very well of that group be the best chance for Kane to chase a fourth Stanley Cup this season. You see how dynamic their offense has been, carrying that team without their two top defensemen in Brandon Montour and Aaron Ekblad, both now coming back. You can see this Panthers team take off, and there seems to be some thought that the Panthers could be a multi-year destination.
Kane may not have to sign for just one year, it could be a multi-year deal, or the potential of that down the line with their cap space clearing up. He would be a very interesting fit in South Florida." Seravalli said. Among the other teams that have met or talked with Kane, according to Seravalli, are the Buffalo Sabres, Dallas Stars, Detroit Red Wings, Tampa Bay Lightning and Toronto Maple Leafs.
Kane, 35, appeared in 73 games for the Chicago Blackhawks and New York Rangers last season, putting up 57 points (21 goals, 36 assists), 16 penalty minutes and was a minus-22.
It's going to be interesting to see where Patrick Kane ends up and some insiders, including Frank Seravalli, are expecting him to make a decision potentially within a week.
