Brad Marchand is set to get paid one final time in the NHL, and if he departs the Florida Panthers, the Boston Bruins are ready to bring back their former captain.
The Boston Bruins traded Brad Marchand at the trade deadline to their division rival Florida Panthers, and it turned out to be one of the best moves possible for the team as he went on to dominate the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
As a result, the 37-year old heads into free agency ready to get paid, and while the expectation is he could return to the Panthers, but if not, there's going to be plenty of interest in him on the open market.
Now, a new report from Pierre LeBrun has revealed that his former team the Boston Bruins are open to bringing him back, although it's not clear just how mutual that interest could be with Marchand.
According to all reports, the team treated him well on the way out, and while they gave him what appeared to be an underwhelming contract offer, there's still plenty of respect and love between Marchand and the Bruins organization.
After over 15 years together, it's easy to see why he wouldn't want to go back, as he could keep looking forward in Florida or somewhere else (potentially Toronto), but if he does make free agency, all signs point to Boston offering him a fantastic deal.
Ultimately, this may come down to which team offers Marchand the best deal for the rest of his career, and while that may be Boston, there's also plenty of other teams in play, so when free agency opens on July 1st, expect many suitors to emerge for the veteran forward as he looks to what's next in his career.
