As the Toronto Maple Leafs begin their search for a new General Manager, several candidates are emerging. But it's a former General Manager of their arch-rival Montreal that could be on the Maple Leafs' radar according to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman.

During his latest '32 Thoughts' podcast, Friedman mentioned that we're likely to hear Marc Bergevin's name tied to the Maple Leafs' vacant General Manager position over the next few weeks.

"One of the names that is making a lot of the rounds right now is Mark Hunter, I think you're going to hear Marc Bergevin" Friedman said.

Bergevin, 57, was Montreal's General Manager between 2012 and 2021, helping build several contending teams. During his time at the helm in Montreal, the Canadiens made the Eastern Conference Final in 2014 and Stanley Cup Final in 2021.

Some of his draft selections drew criticism, mainly surrounding Logan Mailloux in 2021, but he's also struck gold a few times. Cole Caufield, Kaiden Guhle, Rafael Harvey-Pinard, Jordan Harris, and Jesse Ylonen are among those still with the Canadiens that were drafted by Bergevin. Meanwhile, some of those that moved on from the organization that he selected include Artturi Lehkonen, Mikhail Sergachev, Jesperi Kotkaniemi and Alexander Romanov.

The Maple Leafs have also been linked to Mark Hunter and Brad Treliving, but there will certainly be many more candidates we'll hear about over the next little while.
