Pierre-Luc Dubois says he's fine with criticism after two trade requests
25-year-old Pierre-Luc Dubois is already on his third team in the National Hockey League, thanks in part to a pair of trade requests he submitted to the Columbus Blue Jackets and Winnipeg Jets, respectively.
Dubois was drafted third-overall in 2016 by Columbus, behind Auston Matthews, who went first-overall to Toronto and Patrik Laine, who went second-overall to the Winnipeg Jets. After parts of four seasons with the Blue Jackets, the team granted him his wish and traded him, where he went to Winnipeg in exchange for Patrik Laine and Jack Roslovic.
His stint with the Winnipeg Jets only last three seasons before he asked for another trade, which was also granted, with Kevin Cheveldayoff shipping the Ste-Agathe-des-Monts, Quebec native to the Los Angeles Kings.
In a recent interview, Dubois was asked about his two trade requests so early into his National Hockey League career and he said that he's okay with and understands the criticism he's been receiving.
"I knew when I asked for my trade from Columbus, I'd get criticized," Dubois said. "I knew when this situation happened in Winnipeg, I'd get criticized. I had to look at it like, 'Do I not want to get criticized but not do what I want to do or do I want to get criticized but be happy with my life?'"
He added, "Everybody's entitled to their opinion. At the end of the day, it's my life: I only live once. I only have one career."
Dubois is only two games into his tenure with the Los Angeles Kings and so far, he hasn't recorded any points, has two penalty minutes and is a minus-two, but on Tuesday night, he'll have a big test ahead of him. Dubois will make his return to Winnipeg and face the Jets, which should be must-watch TV. There's no doubt that Dubois will be hearing it from the crowd every time he touches the puck, but the main thing for him is that he's happy in life and with his current team.
