Ryan Hartman received a massive 10-game suspension on Monday, and now the Department of Player Safety have explained their decision.
The NHL's Department of Player Safety have made some questionable calls this season, letting off some terrible acts on the ice with just fines, but now, they've put their foot down and handed Minnesota's Ryan Hartman a
10-game suspension.
While some agree with the call, others find it a bit too much, and now, the league have explained their reasoning behind the call, stating what many on social media said over the weekend about his disgusting act.
«Ryan Hartman contends he is attempting to use his hand to regain his balance using Stützle for support, and their fall to the ice is accidental.»
«We disagree. He chooses to take advantage of a vulnerable player in an unacceptable fashion.»
On top of that, Hartman is a repeat offender, which certainly doesn't help his cause, but perhaps the biggest reasoning behind the suspension was the fact that they believe it wasn't a hockey play.
"It is important to note that this is not a hockey play. Hartman contends that he is attempting to use his hand to regain his balance using Stützle for support and that their fall to the ice is accidental. We disagree."
Hartman was given a major penalty on the play and was ejected from the game, but given the inconsistency from George Parros this season, nobody quite knew what was coming here.
Ultimately, you can agree or disagree with the length of the suspension, but there's no doubting that the veteran deserved to be given a few games off, and with the dangerous position he put Stutzle in, it's hard to argue with the DoPS's decision.
