WIld's Ryan Hartman was recently handed a 10-game suspension for his vicious play on Senators' Tim Stutzle, and now he has made a decision regarding his appeal.
Minnesota Wild winger Ryan Hartman was handed a 10-game suspension Monday for roughing Ottawa Senators winger Tim Stutzle in Saturday's 6-0 defeat for Minnesota.
A two-minute penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct was handed out to Hartman, and Stutzle earned a minor penalty for a slash earlier in the game.
Ottawa's superstar winger exited for a brief period following the incident where Hartman pushed his head to the ice, bloodied but returning and having a three-point performance (a goal, two assists).
Ryan Hartman plans to appeal his 10-game suspension
The 48-hour timeframe for an appeal holds for Hartman, and in a report filed by Minnesota Wild beat writer Sarah McLellan, an appeal will be lodged for him.
"Wild's Ryan Hartman expected to appeal 10-game suspension that will cost him nearly a half-million dollars," McLellan titled her article.
In case of the suspension being upheld by the league, 12% of his annual salary, in terms of $487,804.90, will not go towards him, but rather to the player's emergency fund.
Hartman signed a three-year, $12 million contract and has a $4 million annual salary. Regardless of whether Hartman's suspension appeal is successful, let this be a lesson learned that plays involving the head are unacceptable.
