The Minnesota Wild defenceman is set to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1st and while there may be interest from other teams, David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period is reporting that there's talk he's considering retirement.
Pagnotta did add however that Goligoski is keeping his option open and playing next season could be a possibility for the 38-year-old blueliner.
Goligoski, a native of Grand Rapids, Minnesota, has been in the National Hockey League for 17 seasons, starting out with the Pittsburgh Penguins before moving on to the Dallas Stars, Arizona Coyotes and most recently, the Wild.
This past season, Goligoski appeared in 36 games for the Wild where he had ten assists, 18 penalty minutes and was a minus-eight. He spent over a month on long-term injured reserve early in the season due to a lower-body ailment.
It'll be interesting to see what Alex Goligoski decides to do. If he decides to hang up the skates, he can be proud of what he did, playing 17 years in the National Hockey League is an incredible accomplishment. But if he decides to continue, there could be a number of teams interested in his services on a one-year contract with a low AAV.
