The Montreal Canadiens have been carrying eight defenceman on their National Hockey League roster for the last little while, but it appears that will change in the next 24 hours.
Ahead of their quick trip down to Philadelphia for Wednesday's game against the Flyers, the Canadiens announced that they've placed defenceman Gustav Lindstrom on waivers for the purpose of assigning him to the AHL's Laval Rocket.
Lindstrom, 25, was acquired by the Canadiens in August, along with a conditional fourth-round pick in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft in exchange for Jeff Petry, who Kent Hughes had brought back to Montreal in a three-team deal with Pittsburgh and San Jose.
In 14 games with the Canadiens this season, the Ostervala, Sweden native has four points (three goals, one assist), six penalty minutes and has an even-rating.
In other related news, Calgary Flames forward Kevin Rooney has cleared waivers and will be assigned to the American Hockey League's Calgary Wranglers where he'll continue to work his way back from shoulder surgery.
