Cole Caufield gave Martin St-Louis more than offense Saturday.

He gave the Canadiens a locker-room moment nobody in that room will forget.
The win over the New York Islanders mattered on its own, but that wasn't the biggest story once the players got off the ice.
The mood shifted fast once Caufield came through the door after taking one of the game's stars.
Kirby Dach, Samuel Montembeault, and Arber Xhekaj were waiting for him.
Patrik Laine joined in too, and the room was already buzzing before Brendan Gallagher turned the attention somewhere else.
That's when Gallagher made the moment land. Instead of handing the team's traditional player-of-the-game honor to a skater, he passed it to assistant coach Roger Grillo.
Grillo had just finished and won his battle with cancer. In a room built around routine, game plans, and results that cut through everything.
It wasn't a staged media clip. It felt like a real locker-room release after a stretch packed with pressure, noise, and playoff-level tension around this group.
Caufield's reaction said plenty. He went straight to Grillo and wrapped him in a long hug, and soon the rest of the regulars closed in around the coach.

Brendan Gallagher shifted the spotlight

That's why this stood out.
Gallagher could have let the room stay on the win or on Caufield's big night, and nobody would have blinked.
Instead, he pushed the spotlight toward someone who had earned it away from the scoresheet.
That call matters inside a team. Players notice who gets recognized, and coaches notice who is willing to step back when the moment demands it.
For Caufield, it added another layer to a season that already has him sitting on 43 goals.
The production is there, but scenes like this are why teammates rally around certain players.
For Martin St. Louis, this is the kind of response every coach wants to see from his room late in the season. Not just emotion after a win, but emotions tied to each other.
The Canadiens didn't just beat the Islanders on Saturday night. They showed the room is still tight, still engaged, and still ready to make a bigger push with meaning behind it.
