The Nashville Predators made some huge additions last summer, but after a poor season, it appears as though they've admitted their future doesn't look great.

This time last year, the Nashville Predators were getting ready to land not one, not two but three proven stars at the NHL level, and with a core of Roman Josi, Filip Forsberg and Juuse Saros, optimism was high that this team could turn into genuine Stanley Cup contenders.
12 months later and things in Nashville aren't looking so hot, as the team failed to make the Stanley Cup Playoffs with a disappointing year, and while they've got a solid pick at No. 5 overall, likely to land them one of Caleb Desnoyers, Michael Misa, James Hagens or Anton Frondell, the future is tough.
Now, a report from The Athletic's James Mirtle has touched on exactly that point, as he has revealed that the Predators do not 'see a realistic path to being good', and that's certainly not the way they expected things to go after last summer.
Unsurprisingly, everyone will now begin to look at the likes of Forsberg, Josi, Jonathan Marchessault and Steven Stamkos, and given that the last two have only just arrived, there's a chance that they could look to opt out and request a trade, with the speculation surrounding Marchessault already this off-season.
Regardless of if that happens or not, the Predators have very few intriguing prospects, not a lot of extra draft picks and a core that's ageing, and in the modern NHL, that's simply a recipe for disaster.
Ultimately, this is a team that has some veteran talent, but in terms of depth, there's just nothing there, and with no positive future in sight, don't be surprised to see this team become major sellers in the near future.
