Nashville Predators forward Jonathan Marchessault isn't afraid to mix it up, and he stirred the pot during today's game against the St. Louis Blues after a dirty suspension worthy cheap shot by Blues Alexey Toropchenko
It's been a frustrating year for the Nashville Predators, who didn't even come close to meeting the expectations that came with their multiple high profile additions during the summer.
One of the additions was Jonathan Marchessault, who scored 40 goals last year for the Vegas Golden Knights but didn't receive what he felt was a satisfactory contract extension offer; he decided to take his talents elsewhere and landed with the Predators.
During today's game against the St. Louis Blues, Marchessault's feisty side came out. After he was hit by Blues forward Alexey Toropchenko, he then made a beeline toward Philip Broberg and blasted him with a heavy hit, sparking an all-out confrontation between the two clubs.
Marchessault won't come close to repeating his 40 goal performance of a year ago with Vegas, currently on pace to score just 23.
It wasn't long ago that Predators coach Andrew Brunette pointed the finger at his veteran players which include Steven Stamkos and Brady Sjkei, saying that they needed to step up their performance and finish the year strong despite not being a playoff team.
It's challenging. We have a lot of guys who haven't been in this situation, with our veteran guys for a while Mentally, it's a drain. It's hard. But they're going to be here a long time. They have a long time on their contracts. They have to be our leaders and they have to set an example going a certain way so our young guys see that. We never want to be here again but, when we are here, we have to handle ourselves with a little bit more professionalism than we are right now.
It wouldn't be surprising that Marchessault is feeling the frustration of failing to live up to the major forecasts before the year began that had the Predators among the top teams in hockey.
