With the New York Islanders taking on the Ottawa Senators today, it wasn't exactly a battle of the best teams of the NHL. However, out of the two, the Islanders have a far better chance of making the post season. That goal slipped a bit further away after a costly penalty in overtime.
Bo Horvat scored the goal that sent the game in overtime, keeping the Islanders hopes of getting away with two badly needed points. It came with under a minute left in the third period.
Unfortunately for Horvat, it was a holding penalty on him in overtime that led to the Sens Brady Tkachuk scoring the game winner on the powerplay. The hold was on Tim Stutzle, and Horvat and many others felt it was soft. Horvat let the officials know that on the way to the box.
The Islanders remain behind the Detroit Red Wings and Tampa Bay Lighting for a wild card spot in the Eastern Conference.
