Recently, New York Islanders defenseman Mike Reilly was diagnosed with a concussion after a brutal collision against the Buffalo Sabres, with worries over his status moving forward.
The 31-year old was cleared from that however, but now Islanders GM Lou Lamoriello has declared that Reilly will be out for months with another health issue, according to Daily Faceoff's Frank Seravalli.
During the testing for the concussion, doctors reportedly found issues with Reilly's heart, and he will now undergo surgery that is set to keep him out for quite some time.
When asked about the situation, Lamoriello was worried for his veteran, but called it a "blessing in disguise", as this issue may never have been found if not for the concussion issues.
Given that this could have become a much bigger issue down the line, it's easy to see why Reilly will be thankful that this was found, as he will be able to get back to 100% and likely return to the team, if not this year then next season at the very latest.
The team didn't go into full detail into what the condition was, but it's a very scary situation for Reilly and his family, but because it was found when it was, it appears everything will be okay.
We still send our best wishes to Reilly as he undergoes a very difficult situation, and we hope that everything goes perfectly and he can take the ice for the Islanders again this season as they chase a spot in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
