New York Islanders Reportedly Considering Historic Move In General Manager Search

The New York Islanders shocked many around the NHL earlier this week when they fired general manager Lou Lamoriello after seven years with the club.

Since then there has been much speculation as to who will replace him.

One former NHL general manager has already been linked to the team.

But today another candidate the team is reportedly considering has been revealed and if she gets the job it would be quite the moment in NHL history.

That candidate is current New Jersey Devils assistant GM Kate Madigan.

Should Madigan get the job, she would become the first woman to be a general manager for a NHL club in league history.

Madigan got her start with the Devils as a team analyst during the 2017-18 season.

She very quickly moved through the ranks and was promoted to Director of Pro Scouting in the 2019-20 season.

The following year she took over as Director of Hockey Operations, a role she fulfilled for just two seasons before being promoted to AGM ahead of the 2022-23 season.

Oddly enough, Kate's father Jim worked for the Islanders as a scout for thirteen years between 1993 and 2006.

Considering her experience with the Devils and her impressive rise through the organization, she could be exactly what the Islanders need after having the oldest GM in the league.
