New York Rangers top prospect targeted with hit from behind after forcing player to leave on a stretcher in his last game

When you're arguably the best hockey player on your team, there are moments where you have a target on your back, this was evident during the Peterborough Petes tiebreaker game versus the hometown Kamloops Blazers.

In their previous game Brendan Othmann delivered a hit to Kamloops player Kyle Masters, which resulted in the player leaving the game on the stretcher.

It was expected in this rematch that Othmann could face some retribution and with about six minutes to play in the first period it happened. As Othmann attempted to make a pass out of the Petes zone, seconds later he is hit in the back by Blazers Emmitt Finnie. Finnie was assessed a two-minute minor for boarding on the play that could have turned out a lot worse.

While the game happens fast, the rules are in place so that players are held accountable for their actions. The game is played on the edge but you never want to see incidents like that occur.

Despite at one time trailing 4-1, the Petes were able to fight back and win the game in overtime, punching their ticket to the Semi-Finals today.
