After a relatively strong training camp, the New York Rangers have decided to cut top prospect Brennan Othmann ahead of their 2023-24 season opener next week.

"TRANSACTION: Forward Brennan Othmann has been assigned to the Hartford Wolf Pack." The Rangers' PR account said on X.

Othmann, 20, appeared in five games during the preseason with the Rangers and was given plenty of opportunity to prove to the coaching staff and management that he is capable of jumping into the NHL right out of junior. He'll now join the Hartford Wolf Pack for the remainder of their training camp before they open up the 2023-24 season later next week.

For his development, it's probably best that he starts out with the AHL's Hartford Wolf Pack and get adjusted to playing professional hockey before he gets called up, which will more than likely happen at some point during the 2023-24 season.

In those five preseason contests, the Pickering, Ontario native had two goals and five shots on goal and looked pretty good away from the puck as well.

The New York Rangers will open their 2023-24 season on Thursday, October 12th at KeyBank Center against the Buffalo Sabres.
