Some alarming information has been revealed involving Chris Kreider, which could lead the Rangers' general manager, Chris Drury, to some hard decisions.
After a rocky beginning to the season, Drury made aggressive in-season deals, and more drama could be coming. Among the players possibly in the mix is veteran forward Chris Kreider.
A number of sources have indicated that Drury is prepared to trade more players, similar to how he did with high-end prospects and players like
Kaapo Kakko,
Jacob Trouba, and
Ryan Lindgren, with possibly now even Kreider.
Kreider, 33, has been a mainstay of the Rangers' offense for years, a presence at the net front and on the power play.
He's recorded 30 or more goals in each of the past three seasons, making him a tempting commodity to contenders. But his health might complicate trade talks.
As Phil Kocher reported on social media X, insider
Elliotte Friedman chimed in that Kreider's greatest problem is the one that sounds so obvious: his health.
"I think the biggest thing I get on [Kreider] is the health. I think #NYR would like to [trade him], but the biggest question I heard was health. Just how healthy is he?"
- Elliotte Friedman
Kreider suffered multiple injuries this season
His back injury, midseason dizziness, and hand problem after the Four Nations Face-Off all kept him sidelined at different points this year. His production suffered in the process, with only 30 points (22 goals, eight assists) in an abbreviated campaign.
The Rangers would like to trade him, but will somebody take the gamble? Kreider is still valuable when he is healthy, but the unknown of his stamina may limit Drury's options.
