The New York Rangers had a horrendous year in 2024/25, and after mistreating a mid-season acquisition, he's lashed out at the team over his situation.
After a President's Trophy a year ago, the New York Rangers 2024/25 season was an absolute disaster, and with some shocking roster moves, terrible management from the GM down to the Head Coach and struggles from their key veterans, the organization has some major things to fix this summer.
One player who won't be a part of any fix is veteran
Calvin de Haan, who was acquired by the team at the deadline in the move that sent
Ryan Lindgren to Colorado, and it's safe to say that he wasn't happy about how his stint in The Big Apple has gone.
Ahead of the teams latest game, de Haan made some explosive comments to Rangers reporter Mollie Walker on how he's been treated this season, and it's safe to say he didn't hold back.
'How about the way I've been treated here? It's f**ked.'
Down the stretch, the Rangers scratched the veteran in their final 18 games, that is despite playing players like
Carson Soucy on their top pairing, who was also a dreadful addition at the trade deadline from GM Chris Drury, whose future should be very limited in New York.
We will wait and see how the Rangers react to de Haan's comments, but with the team having just two games left in the regular season, they may not do that at all as he is clearly set to hit free agency in the summer, and after the way he was treated, with just three games played since arriving in New York, he definitely won't be back after these comments.
After this all went down, de Haan took to social media to address the situation, leaving this post that explained his feelings on his situation with New York.
Going to get ahead of this now
I was hoping that I would have been able to express in a scrum setting versus a quote as I was going onto the ice and having it on the Internet 30 seconds later. I said what I said because I am frustrated , and any competitor who says that they would be happy in this position would be lying to you.
After playing 3 games for the team and going 2-0-1 , I thought I maybe would have got an opportunity to jump into the lineup and help win some games
Did I help win those games I played, maybe? Maybe not? But we still won and collected some crucial points to climb the standings. I understand the youth movement in the nhl, and I'm getting older in hockey years and I may not play every single night. I feel like I can still contribute and help teams win.
I know I'm not going to play 20 minutes a night in the role I've been in the past few years , but again I feel like I can still keep up and help a team in certain facets of the game.
I'm not trying to be the villain or gain attention or throw shade on the organization , I would have preferred a scrum setting to chat about how my time with the rangers has gone.
As a player you have to respect the lineup decisions whether you like them or not, it's just been frustrating not being able to compete and do what I love to do. I hope everyone understands.
Given this post, it's safe to say that de Haan still believes he can contribute at the NHL level, and while he's not going to be a top pairing defenseman, this post proves he still believes in himself, meaning he'll likely be on his way out of New York this summer.
