The New York Rangers started on a roll in the Eastern Conference this season, but after recent reports emerged, their GM has had to meet with the team's top players.
Despite sitting at 12-7-1 after 20 games of action this season, the last week has been nothing but drama for the New York Rangers, whose season is considered by most to be Stanley Cup or bust.
The biggest shock of all came from Elliotte Friedman recently, with the NHL's top insider reporting that not only are the Rangers open for business on the trade market, but that Chris Kreider and Jacob Trouba are two of the players seemingly on the trade block.
While some people accurately pointed out that this was likely just a ploy from New York to light a fire under this team, it has now escalated beyond that, with GM Chris Drury reportedly having to meet with Kreider, Trouba and other senior players to pull the squad back together.
«A Rangers source said Drury did meet with Trouba later in the day Tuesday, as well as Kreider and other veterans, before the team flew to Raleigh. The source characterized the meetings as «honest, productive conversations.»
If Drury's league-wide trade call was meant as a message, those meetings were probably necessary to ensure the team can stay together and not fracture.»
This certainly isn't a good sign for the Rangers, who have seemingly been clicking on the ice for the most part this season, and while the source inside hte organization revealed that the conversations were productive, that may just be Drury buying time.
For now, the trade speculation surrounding Kreider and Trouba won't go away, and while turning it around on the ice could make it stop for now, this is a situation that will likely hang over New York for the remainder of the year.
