The New York Rangers team has fallen off a cliff in recent times, and now it appears GM Chris Drury may have a full blown revolt on his hands.
The New York Rangers started 2024/25 in fantastic form, but over their last 13 games they are just 3-10-0, with the wheels falling completely off what should be a contending team.
However, things could be getting worse before they get better, and according to a recent report from NHL analyst Steve Dangle has uncovered that things are much worse in New York than initially expected.
"There was a players-only meeting and it was not to discuss Peter Laviolette...that relationship is fine...Their main gripe is Chris Drury...They want him to either change his ways or be gone."
The first issue that the team had with GM Chris Drury was the way he handled the Barclay Goodrow departure, as he reportedly had the San Jose Sharks on his no-trade list before Drury simply waived him to help out a friend in San Jose knowing that they would be the team to claim him.
Then was the handling of Jacob Trouba over the last few months, with many in New York believing that his comments after the trade to Anaheim were indicative of how the entire locker room feels.
Unfortunately, Trouba's time in New York didn't end well for the player or the team, and he made that clear in the comments that Dangle believes represent the feelings of the entire team.
"Don't like that it was made public necessarily, but I guess that's New York and how it happens. Made it kind of hard to play, but I'm excited to move forward. In my opinion, things could have been handled better. Not blaming anybody or anything, but it was just kind of an unfortunate end to my time in New York."
It's unclear exactly what a revolt in New York would look like, but Dangle's co-host believes the team have already 'quiet quit', and given their lack of effort as of late, that could be seen as a direct response to Drury.
At this point, things are simply falling apart for the Rangers, and while there's time to turn things around, unless something changes, this may only get worse as the year rolls on.
