After just two weeks of the 2024/25 NHL season, there have been so many surprise teams, both good and bad, but as the year rolls on, the cream generally begins to rise to the top. When that happens, we see many teams look to move on from valuable veterans, and this season there are many candidates, but one stands out among the rest, Patrick Kane.
After a stellar run in Chicago, Kane was traded to the New York Rangers, but in just a short time, the team fell short of the Stanley Cup and ultimately he would go on to become a free agent.
From there he chose Detroit not once, but twice, and while that all ends with the goal of becoming a Stanley Cup Champion once more, but after a 3-3-0 start to the season, there are question marks about the talent of this team.
Now, Bleacher Report's Joe Yerdon has linked Kane to another move, and while it won't come early in the year, if the Red Wings are out of the Stanley Cup Playoff picture by February, it may be a move they are forced to make.
While Kane is no longer the player that he once was, he did put up 47 points in just 50 games a season ago, and for a team looking to fill a hole in their middle-six, there may be few better options out there. At this point, don't expect Kane to be traded, but if Detroit's young core fail to lead them forward and into a playoff position, moving Kane may be the first of many moves this organization looks to take.
