Over the years in the NHL, Jordan Binnington's antics in St. Louis have made him
one of the most hated goaltenders in the NHL, and on Wednesday night, he was up to his old shenanigans. Unfortunately for the Blues, they took on the Ottawa Senators in a very one-sided contest, and late in the game, they were trailing 7-1 when a scuffle broke out between the two teams.
After circling the pack, Binnington broke up a pushing match between
Brady Tkachuk and his teammate, with the announcers quick to react and see if Linus Ullmark would get involved from the other end of the ice. That never eventuated however, and after the game, the former Vezina Trophy winning goaltender explained why he had no interest in getting involved.
If this were a tighter game with higher stakes and a potential divisional rivalry, there may be questions asked about Ullmark's decision here, but given that their team were dominating, he was right, there was absolutely no reason for him to get involved in that moment. While fighting isn't as big in the NHL as it once was, goalie fights are always very popular, and it's likely that we'll continue to see them on a rare occasion, but Wednesday night simply didn't make sense, but given that Binnington is still in the league, don't be shocked to see him fighting in the near future again.
