Multiple Philadelphia Flyers management members didn't want Daniel Briere hired

It appears like things are not all well with Philadelphia Flyers management after the firing of long time general manager Chuck Fletcher last week.

Marcus Hayes of the Philadelphia Inquirer reported today that Flyers Chairman and CEO of Comcast Spectacor, Dave Scott didn't consult Bob Clarke, Paul Holmgren, or Bill Barber before firing Fletcher last week and hiring Daniel Briere as interim GM.

All three of the men left in the dark wouldn't have approved of the promotion. CEO Dave Scott knew this and this is why they were not consulted.

Hayes writes that Briere isn't seen in the same category as some of the other Flyers' legends.

Brière might be a former Flyer, and he's close to Holmgren, but he is no Golden Child in the eyes of the Three Wise Men. In 2017, Holmgren sent him to run Spectacor's ECHL team in Maine, but it was Valerie Camillo, president of Spectacor's sports wing, who in 2020 sent Brière to the Wharton School of Finance at the University of Pennsylvania, which is something of a GM factory. Brière has spent the last year or so tailing Fletcher, but he always was an interloper.

The Flyers organization has been in a state of mediocrity for 10 years now. They have missed the playoffs seven times and only made it past the first round once in that time. Brière used the word ‘rebuild' his introductory press conference and it is truly what this franchise needs
