Philadelphia Flyers forward admits he plans on breaking new NHL rule
On Monday, a report came out saying that the league is no longer allowing players to use pride tape in warmup of Pride Night games starting this year.
This news comes just months after the NHL banned teams from using any type of specialty jersey in warmups beginning this year, including on Pride Night, Military Night, Hockey Fights Cancer Nights, etc. The ban on specialty jerseys is likely due in part to several players boycotting warmups during Pride Night during the 2022-23 season citing religious beliefs.
After the report came out regarding the pride tape, multiple players commented on the matter including Philadelphia Flyers forward Scott Laughton, who said that he doesn't care if he gets fined, he's going to use the tape.
"You'll probably see me with the pride tape on that night anyway."
"If they want to say something, they can." Laughton said.
Toronto Maple Leafs defenceman Morgan Reilly spoke out against the ruling, saying that he's always going to be involved in Pride initiatives regardless of what the NHL says.
"We're going to continue to be involved, pretty much no matter what the league says." Reilly said.
It's going to be interesting to see what happens this season because there's no doubt players will continue to use the tape, even if the National Hockey League decides to issue fines.
