John Tortorella was recently fired after he had an altercation with Cam York, and now Don Cherry has sounded off on the whole situation with his thoughts.
Tortorella was dismissed Thursday, just days after he had a fight with York during Tuesday night's game against the Toronto Maple Leafs, where the rookie defenseman spent nearly 50 minutes in the penalty box.
There are reports that things were getting out of control, and both sides crossed boundaries.
York was initially scratched from Thursday's game against the Montreal Canadiens but ended up playing due to having no healthy players, although he remained on the bench for the entire game.
On his 'Grapevine' program with his son and host Tim, Cherry had something to say regarding the motives behind Tortorella's stepping down.
"Yeah. And he had an argument with Cam York. I guess that was the final straw. Losing takes a toll. I remember sitting outside a branch, and I said to the branch, 'These guys are trying just as hard.' It had nothing to do with effort. I mean, they were just getting beaten down."

Tortorella's post-game comments could have also played a factor in his firing
Aside from the fight, Tortorella's blunt post-game remarks following the Flyers' 7-2 loss to Toronto, where he admitted he had no intention of adjusting his coaching philosophy to the team's woes, appeared to put him out of business.
Following his dismissal, the Flyers appointed associate coach Brad Shaw as their interim head coach while the team searches for a full-time coach.
