The Philadelphia Flyers dropped a dramatic game in OT against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Thursday night, and in the battle of Pennsylvania, there was plenty of drama to go around.
The biggest moment of the night involved Boko Imama, who laid a brutal hit on Garnet Hathaway away from the puck, with the veteran Flyers forward having to be helped from the ice afterwards.
Upon inspection, it became clear that this play warranted at least a five-minute major for Imama, who hit Hathaway late, dangerously and nowhere near the play, so when the officials announced just a two-minute minor, Head Coach John Tortorella unleashed on the bench.
While many believe the veteran coach can be too uptight and angry sometimes, this was 100% warranted, as Hathaway needed help to get off the ice, with the officials clearly getting this call wrong in every way.
Unsurprisingly, the overwhelming reaction on social media has agreed that Imama's actions were dirty, late and incredibly unnecessary, with many calling him out for the disgraceful hit, as well as the officals.
While Hathaway certainly hasn't been an innocent player throughout his career at the NHL level, there was just no need for this, as players have the ability to lay the body and make an impact without it needing to be late, so while Imama will likely hear from the NHL's Department of Player Safety about the hit, Tortorella was right to be frustrated about just the two minute penalty.
