The Philadelphia Flyers recently made Joel Farabee a healthy scratch, and now a top NHL Insider believes he could be traded at some point this season.
The Philadelphia Flyers haven't been at their best in 2024/25, but they remain in the fight despite several veterans struggling to live up to their contracts, Joel Farabee primary among them.
Now, that's led to some major trade speculation, as top Insider Frank Seravalli has him listed at No. 6 on his first trade board article of the season as the trade deadline is now officially less than two months away.
Now, that trade speculation has intensified as the team have officially made him a healthy scratch after some poor performances in recent times, with Head Coach John Tortorella addressing the decision.
"Up until probably a couple of weeks ago, I liked his game.
The production wasn't there, but he was involved. And we break tapes down, and we have all sorts of information after games, and he's involved in a lot of the opportunities
I think he cares. He fights the other night. It's hard for me to take him out. He fights for his team.
I think he's fighting just to try to get some juice within us. It's not easy taking him out.
Sometimes you take out players for punitive stuff, and sometimes you take players out just let him get away from a bit.
So this isn't punitive. I need to get him playing better. Maybe he watches, and I'm not sure where it goes.»
With just 6 goals and 14 points in 42 games played this season, the 24-year old just hasn't had the production that the team would expect for a player on a five-year, $30 million deal, so the team are hoping that a game or two on the sidelines is exactly what he needs to get refreshed and start contributing once more.
