The NHL off-season is only just beginning, and after round one of the 2025 NHL Draft, it's safe to say that it's shaping up to be a chaotic one with so, so many changes around the league expected.
One team that's expected to make some big time moves is the Pittsburgh Penguins, and with the team looking to get younger, it's the perfect opportunity for them to move off some veterans.
That includes one of, if not both Rickard Rakell and Bryan Rust, both of whom hold immense value around the league, and now, the Los Angeles Kings are reportedly circling the two veteran wingers.
In the Western Conference, the Kings appear to be a team that are a move or two away from being genuine Stanley Cup threats, and with both Rakell and Rust capable of putting up 30 goals, they'd be good consolation prizes if the team can't land someone like
Mitch Marner,
Nikolaj Ehlers or
Brock Boeser in free agency.
It's unclear at this point if Pittsburgh will listen on Rust, but we already know they want to move Rakell, meaning that if they can get a young player or a future draft pick in return, there could be a deal brewing between these teams.
Ultimately, it seems like a matter of time until Pittsburgh start selling off all their veteran assets, with these top tier wingers expecting to get a good return for GM Kyle Dubas, so once the draft weekend wraps up, expect them to start talking to opposing teams about the two stars.
