Emil Bemstrom has been a solid pickup for the Pittsburgh Penguins, but with no room for him in the current lineup, the team have now surprisingly waived him.
The Pittsburgh Penguins have made some intriguing moves as of late, and with the team promoting forwards
Rutger McGroarty and
Ville Koivunen for the stretch run, they've had to make some other moves.
One of them has now been revealed by top NHL insider Elliotte Friedman, who has noted that the team have officially waived young forward Emil Bemstrom, who is in his second year with the team after spending his NHL career before that with the Columbus Blue Jackets.
The 25-year old has spent the majority of this season with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the AHL, tallying an impressive 21 goals and 46 points in just 43 games played with the team.
However, he's lacked that production in the NHL, posting just one assist in 13 games played, and with the team bringing in some of their top prospects, there's just no room for him to get consistent playing time.
The former fourth-round draft pick has played in 241 NHL games since his debut back in 2019/20 with the Blue Jackets, and while there's still a future for him in the NHL, there's a chance he could get picked up on waivers in the next 24 hours.
For now though, the Penguins will be hoping that he passes through waivers, as the team needs to replace the scoring punch they lost with McGroarty and Koivunen coming to the NHL in the past few days, and if that happens, it's very likely that we haven't seen the last of Bemstrom in the NHL with Pittsburgh yet.
