Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby is reacting to the death of former Pittsburgh general manager Ray Shero, who died today at the age of 62.

Tragic news has been making the rounds around the National Hockey League today, as it was announced that former Pittsburgh Penguins general manager Ray Shero had passed away at the age of 62..
Shero was the architect of the Stanley Cup-winning Penguins squad of 2009.
In the wake of his passing, Penguins captain Sidney Crosby released the following statement:
Ray Shero was a big part of my early days in Pittsburgh. He gave me a lot of opportunities as a young captain and supported me throughout his time. He did so much for our organization and my memories with him are special. I am grateful for our time spent here and that we were able to win a Stanley Cup championship together.
Current Devils general manager Tom Fitzgerald released the following statement of sympathy and remembrance.
On behalf of the ownership, management, staff, and players of the New Jersey Devils, we are all stunned and deeply saddened by the passing of former General Manager Ray Shero. Ray was a highly-respected executive, enthusiastic mentor, and most importantly, tremendous friend to many during his time in New Jersey. Ray came from a family that dedicated themselves to the game, and he continued to pass that commitment on.

The organization is extremely grateful for the impact Ray had during his tenure in New Jersey, and it is without question that his fingerprints are on the current group we see today both on and off the ice. We send our sincere condolences to his family, and countless friends throughout the hockey world.

Tributes continue to pour in from around the NHL in Shero's memory.
