The St. Louis Blues are going to be busy this off-season, and an insider is reporting that GM Doug Armstrong has a specific area he wants to concentrate on.
In a Daily Faceoff writeup, Frank Seravalli said Armstrong absolutely wants to move a big name and as much money from his blueline as possible, with just one player he is unwilling to move.
"Pick one, anyone, but GM Doug Armstrong is looking to create flexibility on his salary cap by moving one of his higher-priced defensemen. We know Torey Krug isn't going anywhere, but the rest are up for grabs. Interest seemed to percolate on [Colton] Parayko around the deadline, but he still has nearly $45 million remaining on his massive contract over the next seven seasons. That's a big commitment for a big man." - Frank Seravalli Krug is the highest paid defenceman on the team, but at a cap hit of $6.5 million per season, he is tied with both Parayko and Justin Faulk in that category. If Armstrong is looking to move a defenceman not named Krug, it's likely going to be one of these.
Other Potential Names
Armstrong also has Nick Leddy making an average of $4 million per season, while Marco Scandella comes in at $3.275 million. The 33-year-old Scandella also has just one season left before becoming a unrestricted free agent.
