No doubt about it, Ryan Reaves of the Toronto Maple Leafs stirred up a hornet's nest this week talking about being on the sidelines. Reaves hasn't played since Dec. 14, 2023, but he told reporters he's being made a healthy scratch despite the fact that the Leafs have him on injured reserve.

"Yeah, I've been ready for a couple weeks now. That's a question for them. I am not in those rooms, in those conversations. I'm not going to speculate anything. Just stay ready. And if I get called upon, I do. If I don't, I get my work in."

"I definitely hate it. I don't know exactly what the situation is or what's going to happen – I talked to my agents. I've had highs and lows in my career before. I'd say probably this is one of the tougher ones. I guess justit is what it is."

Reaves may not have realized he was accusing the Maple Leafs of cheating the system with his reply to reporters, but that was certainly the implication. On the latest episode of 32 Thoughts, Jeff Marek and Elliotte Friedman were both very surprised by Reaves' candid comments, and wondered if Toronto GM Brad Treliving might be ready to part ways with him.

"Marek and EF think Reaves situation is interesting. Doesn't know what to make of it. Possible #LeafsForever could do something by Wednesday regarding Reaves."

Reaves signed a three-year deal with Toronto before the 2023-24 season began in a clear attempt from Treliving to make the team tougher to play against. However, Reaves was strongly criticized early in the season for having little to no impact whatsoever while eating up playing minutes.
