Another Team Reportedly Dropped from Mitch Marner's List, per Chris Johnston
It certainly appears as though Mitch Marner will not be re-signing with the Maple Leafs this summer, and now the LA Kings, one of the teams in on him have reportedly dropped out of the sweepstakes according to one NHL insider.
Mitch Marner is the biggest name available in free agency this summer and its not even close.
The 28-year-old is one of the top playmaking wingers in the entire NHL as he has amassed 520 career assists as well as 221 goals in just 657 career regular-season games.
Of course, like many other Maple Leafs players, his production in the playoffs has been a different story with just 62 career points in 70 playoff contests.
Regardless, if he were to re-sign with Toronto, that deal would have been finalized by now in all likelihood.
That being said, one Western Conference contender is apparently out on Marner after showing interest in him in recent weeks.
According to trusted NHL insider Chris Johnston, the LA Kings are not a destination Marner himself is truly interested in exploring.
The Kings have put together several strong regular seasons in a row, but much like the Maple Leafs, they have struggled to get past the first round in the playoffs.
Unlike Toronto though, LA has had to deal with
Connor McDavid's Oilers in the first round in each of the past three seasons, so the team has certainly had their fair share of bad luck when it comes to first round matchups.
With LA out on Marner that Leaves the Vegas Golden Knights, Carolina Hurricanes, and Dallas Stars as the top contenders left that have shown interest in him.
Of the three, Carolina would certainly seem like the best fit as they have the most cap room to work with, but who knows what Jim Nill or Kelly McCrimmon might be able to pull off in order to add a player of Marner's caliber to their club.
