Auston Matthews' Comments About Easton Cowan Have Just Unlocked a New First Line

Auston Matthews and Matthew Knies are looking for a new forward to play alongside them on the first line this season.

Of course, Max Domi and Matias Maccelli are the frontrunners in that endeavor right now. However, the team is certainly open to other ideas.

For instance, Easton Cowan is someone who could certainly take the job, as long as he plays well, works hard, and makes the team.

In fact, at training camp today, Auston Matthews made some interesting remarks about Easton Cowan that have us wondering whether or not the rookie really could end up on the top line.

Simply put, Matthews believes the London Knights standout is bigger and stronger than ever. Of course, this would give him an edge against the grown men of the NHL.

Whether or not we actually get to see Cowan on the roster this season still very much remains to be seen, although fans are definitely hopeful.

The deciding factor will likely be the preseason, which starts very soon. This is when we will finally get to see which players have "it" and which players do not.

If Cowan doesn't make the roster, he can always go and play for the Toronto Marlies, where he will be able to further develop his game.

Only time will tell whether or not Easton Cowan can be the player fans hope him to be.
