Former Toronto Maple Leafs second-round pick Travis Dermott has been looking for a professional hockey contract, and he just got a PTO.
If you are a Toronto Maple Leafs fan, you surely remember defenseman Travis Dermott, who was a second-round pick back in 2015.
Overall, Dermott was a fan-favorite during his long tenure with the franchise, which eventually ended during the 2021-22 season.
Since that time, Dermott has bounced around the NHL and has even found himself in the AHL at times, which has put his NHL dreams at risk.
This season, Dermott found himself on the outside looking in. No NHL gig and no AHL gig. A sad reality for a solid defenseman.
Thankfully, he has been given what appears to be a last chance in the form of a PTO with an AHL franchise connected to the New York Rangers.
Travis Dermott goes to the AHL
That team is the Hartford Wolf Pack, which is one of the finest teams in the AHL, and remains one of those squads that fans enjoy.
If you are a fan of Dermott, you will be happy to see that he got this deal. Hopefully, he is able to turn this into an elongated run with the Wolf Pack.
Whether or not the defenseman ever gets back into the NHL is certainly something that remains to be seen and is not guaranteed.
Having said that, this is a great opportunity where he can show that he is, indeed, someone who can play the game at a high level.
We are wishing the former Leaf lots of luck, going forward.
